On May 22, 2014, H.E. Mr. Tin Oo Lwin, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar visited the ASEAN-Japan Centre. He was accompanied by 14 officials from the Myanmar Government including Mr. Win Aung, Minister Counsellor, Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Japan; Mr. Soe Paing, Director, Protocol Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ms. Yin Yin Thet, Director, Foreign Economic Relations Department, Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development; and Mr. Tin Maung Naing, Counsellor, Permanent Mission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to ASEAN.
Mr. Yoshikuni Ohnishi, the Secretary General of the ASEAN-Japan Centre welcomed H.E. Mr. Tin Oo Lwin and his delegation, and illustrated the Centre’s recent achievement and challenges. Also, Mr. Songkane Luangmuninthone, Director of Trade and Investment Division, and Mr. Dananjaya Axioma, Director of Tourism and Exchange Division, introduced the Centre’s activities related to Myanmar in recent years.
H.E. Mr. Tin Oo Lwin expressed his deep appreciation for the Centre’s effort to promote the relationship between ASEAN and Japan. He mentioned that it would be a year to further develop Myanmar-Japan relations as Myanmar chairs the ASEAN this year and many leadership level exchanges will take place. He also expressed his expectation towards further strengthening cooperative ties between the Myanmar Government and the Centre by maintaining close partnership and dialogue among the Embassy of Myanmar in Japan, relevant Ministries of Myanmar and the Centre.
At the end of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed to forge ahead with closer cooperation.
